It is fitting that the May Gardening post this year falls on Mother’s Day weekend.
I learned so much of what I know about gardening from my mother, and my grandmother and it really is a family affair. Each year on Mother’s Day, my mom goes to my brother’s house and helps him plant his annuals in Brooklyn. As she gets older she does more of the pointing and the kids do more of the digging, but it is still a family tradition.
Santa Clarita is an interesting place in May, you can be enjoying the cool mornings (think May gray) one week and the next the unrelenting heat takes over. I’ve hear that El Nino, may prevent us having as many May gray days, but I’m hoping that weather forecast is wrong. I love May gray and I love May Gardening in that May gray.
This Mother’s Day weekend, I’m hoping to start a new tradition – I am going berry picking with my son! I haven’t had much of a chance to do fruit picking since most spring weekends are very busy for me – but this year, I’m going to take the weekend (mostly) off to enjoy some blueberry picking in Moorpark. Yay us!
Here are a list of your May Gardening tasks – I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do.
