Plants that Attract Birds and Butterflies

June - Buddleija w-Swallowtail

I love plants that attract birds and butterflies into my garden.  I love having nature all around me, and bringing butterflies, birds, and beneficial insects is important to me and to our earth.

I use both beautiful plants and a variety of enticements to bring both birds and butterflies into my garden, and love to share my secrets.  Here are a few articles that I have written that talk about plants that attract birds and butterflies.  These articles talk about each plant, their care, and their uses.

Agastache

Agastache – Hummingbird Weed – a favorite for the hummingbirds and even butterflies.

Oct - Hibiscus syriacus

Hibiscus syriacus – Rose of Sharon – this is a great versatile shrub that can be used in many plant zones.  This has long been one of my mother’s favorite plants in her Long Island, N.Y. garden and it is one that I can plant here in Southern California.  It attracts hummingbirds!

M9

Penstemons – Another Hummingbird favorite, this plant has a huge variety from super low water to regular water so you can use it in most any garden.  My personal favorite is Penstemon Margarita BOP (but then again, I LOVE electric purple/blue).

I think I’m going to have to write some more pieces about butterfly plants – and there is a lot to tell.  Look for that coming soon!

Bee on Salvia
