This is the time of the year that graduations are on the minds of many, I’m included in the bunch. My youngest son is about to move on to the next step in his life and I’m both excited and a little sad, as I think I should be. His graduation got me to thinking about graduating into the next stage of life and that we can graduate into the next stage of our gardens as well.
Have you been puttering around planting the same things year after year? Have you been walking around the same patio or even worse, the same lawn and little planter beds? If you have, maybe it is time to make a few changes in your garden. Maybe it is time for you to graduate!
Here are a few things that you can add to your garden to freshen it up, bring better flow, and add focus to your sanctuary.
Plan some new pathways – do you need additional access through your garden? Plan some stepping stones, a DG pathway, or get some nice gravel pathways up and running.
Create a new container or two. Utilize the colors in your pool tile to tie in to the pots in your garden, like we did with these beautiful blue pots. We added lavender, purple, and blue flowers and foliage to create a calm, cool, relaxing vignette.
Add a boulder feature. This could be as a focal point, a foil for some beautiful plants or for a specific use. We created these rocks as a jumping off point for a pool – with the flat one in front. Flat rocks can also be used to place garden statuary upon or create a tsukubi (ritual washing bowl) in a Japanese garden.
Whatever level you are at in your gardening education, I think you are ready to graduate to that next level. Take the leap, you’ll be glad that you did!
I’d love to help take you to that next level, I enjoy collaborating with my clients to create the garden that suits them best. I can design for you, design and implement, or by popular demand – help you sort out the next steps you want to take in your garden. I guess it is a little like one on one gardening school, only better – because we get to play in the dirt together!
