As a Landscape Designer in Santa Clarita, I would like to share with you the importance of planning your Landscape Design. I recently had a phone call from a woman who was on a fact finding mission (great idea) she wanted to get some ballpark pricing for making changes to her yard. Since I love my craft, I spent far longer than I probably should have (she is not likely going to hire me) explaining to her what she needed to look into and trying to give her some basic costs.
As the call went on I realized that she was planning to go shopping for plants with the guy that does her landscape maintenance on SATURDAY and she hadn’t a clue what she should buy (bad idea) but she thought that she should know how much money she might be spending on hardscape and plants for her yard. I tried to convince her that she might want to put off her shopping and do a little research first, but I’m not sure if I succeeded.
It is like “measure twice, cut once” I said. Don’t go shopping without a plant list, or knowing how big things are going to get, or what you want your yard to look like. She seemed to understand what I was saying, but I fear she’ll still be out shopping with her Landscape Janitor on Saturday. Too bad.
I urge you to spend some time planning – go for drives, look at beautiful gardens both in person and on the internet. Sites such as Houzz.com and Pinterest have a wealth of inspiration. You can even check out some of my posts on inspiration, like October Inspiration and Healing and Inspiration – or just check out the pull down menu and look at all the Inspiration posts. There is so much beauty out there to use as inspiration – it is crazy not to take the time.
Take a look at some of the beauty that inspires me, and what I have stored inside to help you create the garden sanctuary of your dreams. I love to share my photography and nature always inspires me.
It is getting warmer and every week now at least until late June the plants are just going to get nicer and nicer and there will be more and more of them. Shopping this weekend is NOT better than shopping next weekend and as a matter of fact if you live in Santa Clarita, next weekend (specifically Saturday March 23, 2013) is a perfect time to shop! I’ll be speaking at Green Thumb Nursery’s Spring Opening. I will be there from at least 10am – 12pm or later (I speak at 10) and if you catch me there you can take advantage of free Design Advice and free plant shopping time too. Plus, they have discounts, raffles, and give aways. You can’t beat it!
