September Gardening Tips:
I know September is almost over. With the weather being so fantastic I’m sure you can get the September Gardening done in a snap! Luckily I’ve been very busy, I will try to be more on the ball about October reminders! September can be a hot month but we have been pretty lucky (after the first week). We have even had a little bit of rain. Gardening in this kind of weather makes life a joy, being outside in 70 or 80 degree weather sure beats 110!
Since we have had some great weather, you will find some lovely autumn vegetables in the nurseries. I resisted buying them earlier, but my tomatoes are almost done. I guess that means setting my mind towards those leafy greens. Don’t forget to freshen up your soil, adding some extra compost to the beds before planting your next season veggies. My veggie beds were a hit this year (photo above is when I first set them up and planted) because they are so cute, colorful and eclectic. Even my least talkative neighbors have stopped by for a visit.
If you haven’t mulched in a while, your whole garden will benefit from a nice layer of mulch. It is great for your garden, adding nutrients to your soil keeps weeds down, and helps moderate the soil temperature. Mulch keeps the soil cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter and helps your soil retain water, That means you don’t have to water as often. Speaking of watering, you might want to dial back that irrigation timer if you haven’t already. I am seeing a lot of very wet yards.
Okay, here is your list of tasks for September Gardening.
