Water Wise Color

If you are looking for a little design inspiration color is always a great place to start and just because we are looking towards water wise plants doesn’t mean color is left behind.

Design Inspiration - water wise color

Working with color is a great way to design your garden.  There are a few simple rules you can use to your advantage in order to create water wise color in your garden.

Try using Complimentary Colors – using complimentary colors in your designs will make your garden pop.  Complimentary colors are ones opposite one another on the color wheel.  You can use them to create drama because the contrast they create seems to vibrate.

Analogous Colors are ones next to each other on the color wheel.  They match well and create a harmonious and relaxing design.  If you want a calm place to relax, try playing with analogous colors. You can even create a monochromatic garden by using different shades of the same color.

You can also play with a triad of color, those are colors spaced evenly from one another on the color wheel.  These combinations tend to be dramatic even when you use pale tones.  A trick to doing this well is to let one of the three colors dominate either by repetition or tone and the other two become accents.

Water wise color isn’t something you can wing, you need to learn about the plants and have a great handle on the concepts of color and it will all fall into place.

If you are interested in learning more about color and applying it to your garden while being environmentally friendly (using low water plants) come on out and listen to me speak at Green Thumb next Saturday 3/26/16 at their Spring Open House.  The event is called Design Inspiration: Water wise color – A Garden Talk.  I’d love to see you, and promise to walk you through some great combinations!  I always stay around for a while and am happy to stay and offer more ideas and advice.

Green Thumb has great raffles, give-aways, and food so stop by and visit!

If you can’t make the event, think about giving me a call at 661-917-3521 or visit my website and contact me there.
