The heat has been non-stop in Southern California and our gardens are suffering. The heat takes a toll on us and on our gardens. I’ve been out for weeks in the heat, so I am taking it easy with my blog but sharing some valuable information that you’ll need in this heat.
I am putting up a few posts that I’ve written in the past because I think they are important at this time and with all this heat.
Here is a post about mulch, How to Choose Mulch. It is very important to add mulch to your garden, our soil and plants benefit from mulch. My personal preference is bark mulch (and I love the one called Forest Floor) but here is the low down so that you can select what is best for you.
You might also want a little refresher on Garden Watering – here are some basics about it. You’ll want to comply with your local water company regulations. Getting to know your garden and having some basic knowledge about the difference in over and under water etc. is what you need in this heat.
Lastly in case you want a little more information about Fire Resistant Plants you can read about some nice options. Fire season is upon us (yes, it started way too early) and it is good to know how you can protect your home and garden – especially if you have a large property near brush.
If you would like to learn more about Landscaping with Drought Tolerant Plants, I’ll be speaking at the Old Town Newhall Library on Saturday 9/26/15 at 11:00 am. I’d love if you would join me! The Library is located at: 24500 Main Street Santa Clarita, Ca. 91321
