It’s been very cold for Southern California, so of course we want to hibernate or curl up on the couch with a warm beverage – right? Wrong! Being a Landscape Designer in Santa Clarita, California I know that it is time to start planning a little “rose time”.
We are getting close to rose pruning time for Southern California, Superbowl Sunday is the perfect time to prune your roses. If you have a landscape Janitor, I hope you can stop him from pruning early (some have already hacked things to bits) because they get slow in the winter and they still have to pay their crew so sometimes you can’t stop them!
If they haven’t pruned your roses yet, have a chat with them and seriously think about telling them NOT to prune at all. I’ll give you simple instructions so that you can take care of them yourself! Just click on the Rose Pruning link and voila’! You can take care of them yourself when it is the CORRECT time to prune.
I also want to let you know that one of my favorite nurseries, Otto & Sons, in Fillmore, Ca. has Rose Care University so you can learn in person what to do. Tell Scott that I sent you!
Here’s the Schedule:
Today: Jan 12, 2013 from 2pm to 4pm
and
Saturday Jan. 19, 2013 from 10 am – 12pm
An extra added bonus today, from 10am – 12pm they are having a class on Backyard Orchard Culture. I attended last year and it was great. Here is what I learned: Backyard Orchard Culture from the Master.
If you want to attend you must make reservations: 805-524-2123 the cost is $15 per session. Rain or Shine
The $15 is a huge value, you receive a $10 gift certificate towards purchases and they have amazing roses and all their merchandise – last year I got $10 off of my Felco Pruners (the creme de la creme!) and you are entered to win great door prizes – roses, books, and more!
