April is an amazing month to be out in the garden! With the rains this year, it is also an amazing place to be out in the hills of Southern California. If you have not gotten out and checked out some of our Super Bloom, you are really missing out. I have hiked in Towsley Canyon, Placerita Canyon, and the Poppy Reserve near Lancaster and I can attest to the fact that the hills are amazing. Anyone with a slope in their garden should be seriously thinking about getting some inspiration from the hills at this time of the year. Why the heck would you want to plant oleander and rosemary when you could have buckwheat, poppies, sand verbena, sages, fairy duster, mallows, gooseberries, or a million others?
I mean, check out this California Peony!
Take a little time to do some hiking, the weather is getting hotter so now is a great time to be out and enjoying the hills any time of day. The later in the year we are, the early we have to hike.
Anyway, I guess it is time for me to give you your list of chores for this month. April Garden Chores are here. But next year I might have to add a bunch of native notes! I’ve been bitten.
If you would like to learn more about creating a beautiful garden with natives or a combo of natives and Mediterranean plants, consider giving me a call at 661-917-3521.
