Agastache Care

Agastache 2

It is one of my favorite times of year – the Agastache are blooming.  What better time than the present to remind you about Agastache Care?

Agastache or Hummingbird Weed is an amazing perennial that attracts Hummingbirds and smells amazing.  It is one of the components of Zartar a wonderful Middle Eastern Spice. It is a great addition to a perennial garden, and it fairly drought tolerant.   Agastache comes in a variety of colors, from red, to orange, to purple, to white so it can fit almost any color palette. agastache care is pretty easy, the plant is very forgiving and if given the right placement will bloom beautifully for years to come.  The key is watering it well when it is first planted, once you establish your new plant it will need less water.  If you miss early watering, your agastache care is not up to par.

Agastache can be used in a Mediterranean Garden, a Cottage Garden, or even a Meadow Garden.  This versatile plant seems at home in many situations and adds color and scent to your garden.  Think about using some at the edge of a pathway, if it is stepped on the fragrance rises.  Another use would be near a seating area, where you can brush against it and enjoy it’s heady aroma.  I love the fragrance of this plant because the orange and hot color varieties smell like a combination of sweet citrus and the hills while the purple and white varieties are reminiscent of licorice and fennel.  Read above how easy this plant is, I hope to see some planted in your garden next time I visit.
