July Gardening To Do List

Garden Ornaments - Fruit Trees in Containers

Here is your July Gardening To Do List for Southern California.  June had a little cloud cover but was pretty hot, especially these last couple of weeks.  That along with drought and water restrictions means it is very important to baby your plants, and yourself.  Try to complete your July Gardening To Do List within the morning and evening hours when it is cooler and the sun is either gone, or not as powerful.

Be sure that your irrigation is set to water during those hours as well, and your plants will be able to retain more of the water that you give them.  If your irrigation timer does not allow you to run multiple run times and you live in Santa Clarita, take advantage of the FREE Weather Based Irrigation Timer that you can get through your local water company.  They are excellent timers and best of all they are still FREE.

I can’t say enough about #2 on the list for this month – MULCH every garden benefits from mulch.  Want to save water?  Mulch!  Want to keep weeds down? Mulch!  Want to cool the roots of your plants? Mulch!  Want to help build up great soil? Mulch!  Want to have a prettier planter bed? Mulch!  Want to have a great Fourth of July?  Mulch!  Only kidding – have a great holiday weekend (even if you don’t have mulch.)

If you would like to create a beautiful sanctuary at home, think about having a partner to help you.  Give me a call at 661-917-3521 or visit my website and contact me there.
