January in the Garden

January In the Garden doesn’t mean a lot in most of the country, however in Southern California there is plenty to do to help your garden sing!

This year we’ve already had quite a bit of rain, but if you haven’t already cleaned out your gutters it is time to get that done.  If you didn’t create a rain garden, you might have small lakes in your garden that show you where you might plan some for the future.  It is not too late to plan, so as it rains this weekend take a look at where things are pooling and do a little research on creating a rain garden or better yet, call me and let my peeps help you with it!

In between rains, you can certainly put down mulch if you haven’t done that yet and of course keep an eye on those weeds they really pop with the rain.  I was away for two weeks at the beginning of the month (hence the late post) and boy did those weeds invade.  I guess I have my work cut out for me.

Spending some time looking at seed catalogs, and dreaming with gardening magazines is also another great way to spend a rainy day – so head out to your magazine stand or check our the online possibilities.  Curling up with a nice cup of something warm and getting some inspiration will go a long way to help you create a beautiful garden by yourself or with the help of a designer.

With that in mind, here is the link to what I feel is important to do in your garden at this time of the year. January Gardening Chores for Southern California
