Recently I have been at consultations, and find over grown or over watered lavender plants. The over grown lavenders look massive and woody. The over watered look brown, brittle and very sad. Since we live in a Mediterranean climate, lavender does well here but only if given proper care. Taking care to place your lavender plants where they will not be over watered (bottom of a slope isn’t a good idea), making sure you give them infrequent deep water, and giving them a nice haircut now and then is key to keeping your lavender healthy and beautiful.
Your lavender will give you many years of beauty, fragrance, and add to our planet’s health as a food source for beneficial insects such as bees (yes, bees! we need bees!!!!) If you take care of them. Deadhead your lavender after it blooms, and cut it back to keep it compact and wood free in the spring. Here is a link to my Lavender Care post.
