Wind Protection For Gardeners

Wind

I’m calling my arborist on Monday, how about you?  The Santa Ana winds have started so it is time (again) to talk about Wind Protection.  The wind was buffeting our house today, slamming doors inside and throwing things around outside.  Luckily I’m mostly up to date on my pruning and the plants in pots are well watered, so our home did not suffer any real damage.  It was quite another story right around the corner.

This lovely Chinese Pistache was blown so hard that it snapped at the base.  Looking at the tree up close, I’m afraid it might have been improperly watered as well.  These trees can take living in a lawn but as you can see it does not promote optimal health.  This makes me sad because I’ve watched this tree grow from a very small sapling into a lovely tree and now she’s gone.  I was counting on her to brighten my drive home when her leaves started turning soon.

So, if you haven’t had your trees trimmed in a while and they are top heavy give your favorite arborist a call and have them come over and lace your trees out. This is just the beginning of the windy season in Southern California. Oh, and please use an arborist, if you want your tree to remain in optimal health, they are the key.  A landscape janitor can remove a tree (as long as they are insured) but to maintain the health of your trees you want someone that really knows what they are doing when they trim.   It is not only your trees that can be damaged by wind, so take a look at How To Protect Your Plants From The Wind.

Let me help you create the garden paradise of your dreams, large or small, edible or ornamental – if you can dream it, we can create it. I love collaborating with my clients and I’d love to collaborate with you. You can call me at 661-917-3521 or visit my website and contact me there.
